Test 7A - Short To Battery

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article in this section.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Using DRB, indicate whether vehicle is equipped with specific module. For module/system options available, refer to the MODULE APPLICATIONS  table under IDENTIFICATION. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Transmission Control Module (TCM) connector, if equipped. TCM is located on left side of engine compartment near cowl. Turn ignition on. If DRB does not display BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, replace TCM. Perform TEST VER-1  .
  2. If DRB displays BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector. PCM is located on fenderwell between CCD Data Link Connector (DLC) and battery.
  3. Turn ignition on. If DRB does not display BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, go to TEST 7B  . If DRB displays BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, turn ignition off. Disconnect Controller Anti-Lock Brake (CAB) module connector, if equipped.
  4. Turn ignition on. If DRB does not display BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, go to TEST 7C  . If DRB displays BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, turn ignition off. Disconnect Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC) or Electronic Instrument Cluster (EIC) connector. Turn ignition on. If DRB does not display BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, go to TEST 7E  . If DRB displays BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, turn ignition off. Disconnect Vehicle Theft Security System (VTSS) module connector, if equipped.
  5. Turn ignition on. If DRB does not display BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, replace VTSS module. Perform TEST VER-1  . If DRB displays BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, turn ignition off. Disconnect compass/mini trip module connector, if equipped. Compass/mini trip module is located at center of roof, above visors. Turn ignition on. If DRB does not display BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, replace compass/mini trip module. Perform TEST VER-1  .
  6. If DRB displays BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, turn ignition off. Disconnect Automatic Temperature Control module connector, if equipped. Turn ignition on. If DRB does not display BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, replace ATC control module. Perform TEST VER-1  .
  7. If DRB displays BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connectors, if equipped. BCM is located behind knee panel below dashboard. Turn ignition on. If DRB does not display BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, go to TEST 7F  . If DRB displays BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, disconnect DRB.
  8. Using an external voltmeter, check voltage between CCD DLC, CCD BUS positive circuit (Violet/Brown wire) and ground. If voltage is more than 8 volts, repair short to voltage in CCD BUS positive circuit. Perform TEST VER-1  .
  9. If voltage is less than 8 volts, check voltage between CCD DLC, CCD BUS negative circuit (White/Black wire) and ground.
  10. If voltage is more than 8 volts, repair short to voltage in CCD BUS negative circuit. Perform TEST VER-1  . If voltage is less than 8 volts, replace DRB cable or cartridge as necessary. Perform TEST VER-1  .
