Test 8A - Short To 5 Volts
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
. For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS
article in this section.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
- Using DRB, indicate whether vehicle is equipped with specific module. For module/system options available, refer to the MODULE APPLICATIONS table under IDENTIFICATION. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Transmission Control Module (TCM) connector, if equipped. TCM is located on left side of engine compartment, near cowl. Turn ignition to RUN position. If DRB does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, replace TCM. Perform TEST VER-1 .
- If DRB displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector. PCM is located between Data Link Connector (DLC) and battery, on fenderwell. Turn ignition on. If DRB does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, proceed to TEST 8B - SHORT TO 5 VOLTS .
- If DRB displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, turn ignition off. Disconnect Controller Anti-Lock Brake (CAB) module connector, if equipped. Turn ignition on. If DRB does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, replace CAB module. Perform TEST VER-1 .
- If DRB displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, turn ignition off. Disconnect Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC) or Electronic Instrument Cluster (EIC) connector. Turn ignition on. If DRB does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, go to TEST 8E - SHORT TO 5 VOLTS .
- If DRB displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, turn ignition off. Disconnect Vehicle Theft Security System (VTSS) module connector, if equipped. Turn ignition on. If DRB does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, replace VTSS module. Perform TEST VER-1 .
- If DRB displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, turn ignition off. Disconnect compass/mini-trip module connector, if equipped. Compass/mini-trip module is located at center of roof, above visors. Turn ignition on. If DRB does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, replace compass/mini-trip module. Perform TEST VER-1 .
- If DRB displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, turn ignition off. Disconnect Overhead Travel Information System (OTIS) module connector, if equipped. OTIS module is located at center of roof, above visors. Turn ignition on. If DRB does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, replace OTIS module. Perform TEST VER-1 .
- If DRB displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, turn ignition off. Disconnect Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) module connector, if equipped. Turn ignition on. If DRB does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, go to TEST 8F - SHORT TO 5 VOLTS .
- If DRB displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connectors, if equipped. BCM is located under lower knee panel of dashboard. Turn ignition on. If DRB does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, go to TEST 8G . If DRB displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, disconnect DRB.
- Using an external voltmeter, check voltage between CCD DLC, CCD BUS positive circuit (Violet/Brown wire) and ground. If voltage is more than 8 volts, repair short to voltage in CCD BUS positive circuit. Perform TEST VER-1 .
- If voltage is less than 8 volts, check voltage between CCD DLC, CCD BUS negative circuit (White/Black wire) and ground.
- If voltage is more than 8 volts, repair short to voltage in CCD BUS negative circuit. Perform TEST VER-1 . If voltage is less than 8 volts, replace DRB cable or cartridge as necessary. Perform TEST VER-1 .
