Fuel Pump (Grand Cherokee)

All models are equipped with a turbine type electric pump located inside fuel tank. A mechanical fuel pressure regulator is mounted on fuel pump. Mechanical fuel pressure regulator is not controlled by PCM or engine vacuum. Pump is driven by a permanent magnet, 12-volt electric motor. The in-tank pump is an integral part of the fuel gauge sending unit.

With engine at idle, fuel system pressure is maintained at about 37-41 psi (2.6-2.9 kg/cm2 ). When fuel pump is not operating, some fuel pressure is maintained by a fuel pump outlet check valve.
