Test 8A - Short To 5 Volts

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  in this article. For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  section at the end of this article.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Using scan tool, indicate whether vehicle is equipped with specific module. For module/system options available, refer to the MODULE APPLICATIONS  table under IDENTIFICATION. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Transmission Control Module (TCM) connector, if equipped. Turn ignition to RUN position. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, replace TCM. Perform TEST VER-1 .
  2. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, go to TEST 8B .
  3. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, turn ignition off. Disconnect Controller Anti-Lock Brake (CAB) module connector, if equipped. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, replace CAB module. Perform TEST VER-1 .
  4. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, turn ignition off. Disconnect Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC) or Electronic Instrument Cluster (EIC) connector. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, go to TEST 8E .
  5. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, turn ignition off. Disconnect Vehicle Theft Security System (VTSS) module connector, if equipped. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, replace VTSS module. Perform TEST VER-1 .
  6. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, turn ignition off. Disconnect compass/mini-trip module connector, if equipped. Turn ignition on. 6If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, replace compass/mini-trip module. Perform TEST VER-1 .
  7. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, turn ignition off. Disconnect Infinity premium radio, if equipped. Turn ignition on. If scan tool 6does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, replace radio/CD player. Perform TEST VER-1 .
  8. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, turn ignition off. Disconnect Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) module connector, if equipped. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, go to TEST 8F .
  9. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, turn ignition off. Wait 5 minutes before proceeding. Disconnect Air Bag Control Module (ACM) connector, if equipped. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, replace ACM. Perform TEST VER-1 .
  10. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connectors, if equipped. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, go to TEST 8G . If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO 5 VOLTS, disconnect scan tool from Data Link Connector (DLC).
  11. Using an external voltmeter, check voltage between DLC, CCD BUS positive circuit (White/Violet wire on YJ body; Violet/Brown wire on all others) and ground. If voltage is more than 4 volts, repair short to voltage in CCD BUS positive circuit. Perform TEST VER-1 .
  12. If voltage is less than 4 volts, check voltage between DLC, CCD 6BUS negative circuit (White/Black wire on XJ body; Orange wire on YJ body; White/Gray wire on ZJ body) and ground.
  13. If voltage is more than 4 volts, repair short to voltage in CCD BUS negative circuit. Perform TEST VER-1 . If voltage is less than 4 volts, 6replace scan tool cable or cartridge as necessary. Perform TEST VER-1 .
