Fuel Pump (Except Grand Cherokee)

All models are equipped with a turbine type electric pump located inside fuel tank. Pump is driven by a permanent magnet, 12-volt electric motor. The in-tank pump is an integral part of the fuel gauge sending unit.

With engine at idle, fuel system pressure is maintained at about 31 psi (2.2 kg/cm2 ) when vacuum is applied to fuel pressure regulator. With no vacuum applied to fuel pressure regulator, fuel pressure should be about 39 psi (2.7 kg/cm2 ). When fuel pump is not operating, fuel pressure is maintained at 19-39 psi (1.3-2.7 kg/cm2 ) by fuel pump outlet check valve and the fuel pressure regulator.
