Malfunction Indicator Light (Mil)

NOTE: Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) may also be referred to as CHECK ENGINE light.

The Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) alerts driver if the PCM has recorded a system or sensor malfunction. MIL light will come on if vehicle goes into a limp-in mode. The MIL can also be used to display Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). By cycling the ignition on, off, on, off and on within 3 seconds, the PCM will display the DTCs in a series of flashes representing numbers. For additional information, see TESTS W/CODES - 4.0L article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE section.
