Test 29B - Shorted Liftgate Ajar Circuit

CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  in this article. For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  section at the end of this article. Perform TEST VER-1B  after each repair.
  1. Ensure liftgate is aligned properly. Align or adjust liftgate as necessary. If liftgate is aligned properly, disconnect liftgate ajar switch connector. Check condition of connector, and clean or repair connector as necessary. If connector is okay, go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool, read gate ajar switch status. If scan tool displays GATE AJAR OPEN, replace liftgate ajar switch. If scan tool does not display GATE AJAR OPEN, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) Natural connector. BCM is located behind left side knee panel. Check condition of connector, and clean or repair connector as necessary. If connector is okay, go to next step.
  4. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of BCM Natural connector terminal No. 2 (Tan/Black wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace BCM. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Tan/Black wire.
