Test 86C - Shorted Left (L) Channel
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting any module connector.
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION in this article. For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS section at the end of this article. Perform TEST VER-1B after each repair.
NOTE:
Radio must remain on during this test.
- Turn radio on. Disconnect Left Rear (LR) speaker connector. If sound is restored to L channel when LR speaker connector is disconnected, replace LR speaker. If sound is not restored to L channel when LR speaker is disconnected, go to next step.
- Disconnect Left Door (LD) speaker connector. If sound is restored to L channel when LD speaker is disconnected, replace LD speaker. If sound is not restored to L channel when LD speaker is disconnected, go to next step.
- Disconnect Instrument Panel (IP) speaker connector. If sound is restored to L channel when IP speaker is disconnected, replace IP speaker. If sound is not restored to L channel when IP speaker is disconnected, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Gain access to back of radio and disconnect radio Black connector. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of radio Black connector terminal No. 4 (Dark Green wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Dark Green wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Check resistance of radio Black connector terminal No. 2 (Brown/Yellow wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Brown/Yellow wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Check resistance of radio Black connector terminal No. 6 (Brown/Light Blue wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Brown/Light Blue wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Disconnect radio Gray connector. Check resistance of radio Gray connector terminal No. 2 (Brown/Red wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Brown/Red wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace radio.
