Fuel System Pressure Release

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Slowly loosen fuel tank filler cap to release fuel tank pressure. Remove protective cap from pressure test port on fuel rail.
  2. Using Fuel Pressure Gauge Tool Set (5069), obtain fuel pressure gauge and hose assembly (C-4799-A). Remove gauge from hose. Place gauge end of hose in approved gasoline container. Position shop towels to soak up any spilled fuel. Connect other end of fuel pressure release hose to fuel pressure test port. Fuel pressure will bleed off through hose into gas container. Remove fuel pressure release hose and install cap over test port. Reconnect negative battery cable.
NOTE: Cherokee and Wrangler are equipped with a vacuum controlled fuel pressure regulator located on fuel rail. Excess fuel is routed from fuel pressure regulator back to fuel tank.
