Test 45A - Tachometer Circuit

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  in this article. For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  section at the end of this article. Perform TEST VER-1B  after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Start engine. Using scan tool, read engine RPM. If RPM is less than 400 RPM, see appropriate TESTS W/CODES article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE section as listed below. If RPM is more than 400 RPM, go to next step.
  2. Inspect tachometer head for physical damage. If tachometer head is damaged, replace tachometer head. If tachometer head is not damaged and has not been previously replaced, replace tachometer head. If tachometer head is not damaged and has been replaced before, replace MIC printed circuit board.
