Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove knee bolster. If vehicle is equipped with tilt steering, move to lowest position. If vehicle is not equipped with tilt steering, loosen steering column upper retaining bolts to lower steering column. On all models, remove screws attaching upper and lower steering column covers. Remove steering column covers.
  2. Disconnect Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM) electrical connector. See Figure . Pull downward on connector end of SKIM bracket to release from steering column. Rotate SKIM and mounting bracket downward and slide SKIM antenna ring from ignition lock cylinder. Use care when removing SKIM antenna ring from ignition lock cylinder.
  3. Remove SKIM from vehicle. To install, reverse removal procedure. On non-tilt steering column vehicles, torque steering column mounting bolts to 12.5 ft. lbs. (22 (N.m). If SKIM was replaced, new SKIM must be initialized or vehicle will not start. See PROGRAMMING  .
