Body Control Modules: Description
WARNING:
Vehicles are equipped with air bag supplemental restraint system. Before attempting ANY repairs involving steering column, instrument panel or related components, see SERVICE PRECAUTIONS and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.
The body control computer system consists of a combination of modules that communicate over the Chrysler Collision Detection (CCD) bus system. Through the CCD bus, information related to the operation of vehicle components and circuits are relayed to the appropriate system module(s). This reduces the complexity of vehicle wiring and size of wiring harness.
Body control computer systems covered are as follows:
- Air Bag System
- Compass/Mini-Trip Computer (CMTC) Or Overhead Console
- Module Communication
- Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC)
- Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) System
- Sentry Key Immobilizer System (SKIS)
Body control computer fault messages are accessed through 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC) using Chrysler's Diagnostic Readout Box (DRB) scan tool or generic scan tool. DLC is located on left side of steering column, above brake pedal. See Fig 1 .
