DTC P1687: No Cluster Bus Message: Testing

  1. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, check for DTCs. If DTC P1687 is present and set counter on scan tool display equals zero, go to next step. If DTC P1687 is not present, or set counter on scan tool display does not equal zero, go to step  3 .
  2. Using scan tool, select BODY system, then ELECTRO/MECH CLUSTER. If scan tool does not communicate with instrument cluster, go to BUS (+) & BUS (-) OPEN, BUS (+) OPEN OR BUS (-) OPEN test under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - CHEROKEE article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If scan tool communicates with instrument cluster, go to NO RESPONSE FROM POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE test under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - CHEROKEE article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT
  3. Turn ignition off. It is assumed that there is an intermittent problem with wiring harness and/or connectors. Visually inspect all related connectors and wiring harness for any possible problems. Also, check for any related technical service bulletins. Repair wiring or connectors as necessary. If no problems are found, test is complete.
