VIN Mismatch

  1. Using scan tool, read and record Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC). Erase SKIM DTCs. Turn ignition off for 10 seconds. Turn ignition on. Read SKIM DTCs. If same fault message is currently displayed, go to next step. If same fault message is not currently displayed, go to step.
  2. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select ENGINE. Read and record Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). If VIN stored in Powertrain Control Nodule (PCM) matches VIN stamped on tag in left front of dashboard, replace SKIM. If VIN does not match, replace PCM and reprogram. See appropriate REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Recheck system.
  3. Turn ignition off. Check wiring, connectors and system components. If any problem is found, repair as necessary. If no problem is found, test is complete.
