Description & Operation

Shift interlock system consists of a shift interlock cable/solenoid assembly (connected between ignition switch and floor shifter). See Fig 1 . A brakelight switch and PCM/TCM sense circuits are used to control shift interlock solenoid. With ignition switch in LOCK or ACC position, gear selector is locked in Park. With ignition switch in RUN position, gear selector is locked in Park until brake pedal is depressed. Depressing brake pedal de-energizes shift interlock solenoid and allows gear selector to move to any position. Shift interlock system also prevents ignition switch from being turned to LOCK or ACC position unless gear selector is returned to Park.
