System Operation Check
- Ensure ignition key can only be removed from ignition switch with gear selector in Park.
- Ensure gear selector is in Park with shift handle push button in the released position. Ignition switch should rotate freely from OFF position to LOCK position. Ignition switch should not rotate to LOCK position with gear selector in any other position.
- Shifting from Park should be possible when ignition switch is in OFF position.
- Shifting from Park should not be possible while depressing shift handle push button when ignition switch is in RUN or START positions unless brake pedal is depressed.
- Shifting from Park should not be possible when ignition switch is in ACC or LOCK positions.
- Shifting between gears or into Park may be done without depressing brake pedal with ignition switch in RUN or START positions.
- If shift interlock system does not operate as specified, verify proper gearshift cable and shift interlock cable adjustments. See ADJUSTMENTS . If adjustments are okay, check shift interlock system circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
