- Press and hold trip/reset button on instrument cluster. Cycle ignition switch from OFF to ON positions. Wait until odometer displays mileage, then release trip/reset button. This will start self-test for instrument cluster. Observe all CCD controlled warning lights. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under OPERATION for list of CCD controlled warning lights. If all warning lights illuminate, go to next step. If any warning light does not illuminate, go to step 3 .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure . Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, establish communications with Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If scan tool communicates with PCM, test is complete. If scan tool does not communicate with PCM, perform NO RESPONSE FROM POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under COMMUNICATIONS.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Gain access to rear of instrument cluster. Remove inoperative bulb from instrument cluster and inspect bulb and socket. If fault is found with bulb or socket, repair or replace as necessary. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no fault is found with bulb or socket, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT PANELS - CHEROKEE article. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
