Rolling Code Failure Or VIN Mismatch

  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure . Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, read and record DTCs. Erase DTCs. Turn ignition switch to OFF position and wait 10 seconds. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, read and record DTCs. If DTC resets, go to next step. If DTC does not reset, go to step  4 .
  2. NOTE: Ensure VIN has been programmed into PCM. If VIN is not displayed, attempt to program PCM with correct VIN before proceeding with test.
  3. Using scan tool, select ENGINE. Display and record Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). If displayed VIN matches vehicle actual VIN, go to next step. If displayed VIN does not match vehicle actual VIN, replace Powertrain Control Module (PCM). See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform SKIS VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Replace Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM). See SENTRY KEY IMMOBILIZER MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, read and erase all PCM and SKIM DTCs. Cycle ignition switch from OFF to ON positions 5 times, leaving ignition switch in ON position for 90 seconds per cycle. Using scan tool, read and record DTCs. If DTC resets, replace PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform SKIS VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If DTC does not reset, test is complete.
  5. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Visually inspect connectors at PCM and SKIM for damaged terminals or chaffed wires. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . Check wiring harness for damage. Check for related Technical Service Bulletins (TSB). If no fault is found, test is complete. If fault is found, repair as necessary. Perform SKIS VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
