Instrument Cluster
Instrument cluster includes a speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, oil pressure gauge, water temperature gauge, voltmeter and a series of warning lights.
Powertrain Control Module (PCM) sends signals necessary for instrument cluster to position gauges. Instrument cluster receives these messages from Chrysler Collision Detection (CCD) bus and translates them into gauge positions. Body Control Module (BCM) sends status of some indicator lights and dimming level to instrument cluster over CCD bus when ignition switch is in ON or START positions. Other indicator lights are hard-wired directly to system being monitored. Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) status is sent to BCM from PCM over CCD bus. All other instrument cluster features only work when ignition switch is in ON position. Vehicle chime function and rear window defogger timer are part of instrument cluster circuit board.
Vacuum Florescent (VF) odometer/trip display works when ignition switch is in ON or START positions. BCM stores mileage information for odometer display. If CCD bus is not functioning, odometer will display dashes instead of mileage. BCM sends mileage message and dimming level message to vacuum fluorescent display when ignition switch is in ON position. PCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) can be accessed using VF display by turning ignition switch from OFF to ON position 3 times.
