Brake Warning Indicator Always On
Possible Causes are:
- DTC PRESENT
- RED BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR SWITCH
- RED BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR DRIVER CIRCUIT
- SHORT TO GROUND
- PARK BRAKE SWITCH
- PARK BRAKE RED BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR DRIVER CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND
- INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
- Ensure that the Brake Fluid Level is properly filled and the Brake Fluid Level Switch harness connector is properly connected. Using the DRBIII(R), erase DTCs. Cycle the ignition and wait approximately 15 seconds. Using the DRBIII(R), read DTCs. Does the DRBIII(R) display any Brake or MIC Indicator DTCs? If yes, diagnose and repair brake lamp DTCs and/or brake fluid level switch circuit. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION and SYMPTOM IDENTIFICATION tables under RETRIEVING & CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST VER 1 under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect the Brake Fluid Level Switch harness connector. Measure the resistance of the Red Brake Warning Indicator Switch between pin 1 and pin 2. Is the resistance less than 100 ohms? If yes, replace the Red Brake Warning Indicator (Fluid Level) Switch. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST VER 1 under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect the Red Brake Warning Indicator (Fluid Level) Switch harness connector. Disconnect the CAB harness connector. Measure the resistance between ground and the Red Brake Warning Indicator Driver circuit. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, repair the Red Brake Warning Indicator Driver circuit for a short to ground. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST VER 1 under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, go to next step.
- Ensure that the Brake Fluid Level Switch and Instrument Cluster harness connectors are properly connected. Disconnect the Park Brake Switch harness connector. Using the DRBIII(R) in Inputs/Outputs, read the Park Brake Switch state. Does the DRBIII(R) display "OPEN"? If yes, replace the Park Brake Switch. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST VER 1 under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect the Park Brake Switch harness connector. Disconnect the Instrument Cluster harness connector. Measure the resistance between ground and the Park Brake Switch Sense circuit. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, repair the Park Brake Red Brake Warning Indicator Driver circuit for a short to ground. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST VER 1 under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, replace the instrument cluster. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST VER 1 under VERIFICATION TESTS.
