Chime System

Chime system allows different modules and systems to relay an audible message of status or possible malfunction. Chime module is an integral part of the Body Control Module (BCM) and is not serviceable. Chime system uses 4 modules for chime input. Electro/Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC), BCM, Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) and Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM). Modules will communicate with BCM and BCM will actuate chime module based on inputs.

The MIC will activate chime module for air bag indicator, CHECK GAUGES indicator, low fuel indicator, ABS indicator and low battery voltage indicator. BCM will activate chime module when headlights are on with ignition off and driver's door open, key in ignition with ignition off and driver's door open or for fasten seat belt warning. EVIC will activate chime module when turn signal is left on for longer than one mile, service interval reminder, coolant level low, washer fluid level low or door/liftgate ajar (driver's door at speeds over 10 MPH and all other doors and liftgate at speeds over 3 MPH). The EVIC chime will correspond with a display on the EVIC screen.
