Chime Sounds With Driver's Door Open, Key Removed
Possible Causes:
- Key-In Ignition Switch Shorted
- Key-In Ignition Switch Sense Shorted To Ground
- Instrument Cluster-Key-In Ignition Shorted
Testing
- Disconnect 10-pin ignition switch harness connector. See Figure . If chime still sounds, go to next step. If chime does not sound, replace ignition switch. See IGNITION SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES - WRANGLER article.
- Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure resistance between ignition switch harness connector terminal No. 5 (Light Blue wire) and ground. See Figure . If resistance is more than 100 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 100 ohms or less, repair short to ground on Light Blue wire between ignition switch and instrument cluster connector C2 terminal No. 13.
- If no other problems are found, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
