Possible Causes:

Testing

  1. Turn ignition off. Check fuse No. 7 (10-amp) in fuse block, located on firewall next to glove box. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is faulty, repair power distribution circuit. See POWER DISTRIBUTION in appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
  2. Remove rear window defogger relay from Power Distribution Center (PDC), located in right side of engine compartment, next to battery. See Figure . Turn ignition on. Check voltage at relay cavity terminal C4. If more than 10 volts exists, go to next step. If 10 volts or less exists, repair open on power supply circuit between fuse No. 7 and relay.
  3. Turn ignition off. Connect test light between rear window defogger relay cavity terminals C2 and C4. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, actuate rear window defogger relay. If test light does not flash on and off, go to next step. If test light flashes on and off, replace rear window defogger relay.
  4. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check resistance of Light Blue/White wire between rear window defogger relay cavity terminal C2 and instrument cluster connector C2 terminal No. 7.See Figure and Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open on Light Blue/White wire.
  5. If no other problem is found, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
