Brake Warning Indicator Always On

NOTE: Ensure base brake system functions properly and master cylinder fluid level is okay. Diagnose and repair any ABS DTCs (if equipped) first.

Possible Causes:

Testing

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect brake warning indicator switch connector, located on master cylinder. See Figure . Turn ignition on. If brake warning indicator is illuminated, go to next step. If brake warning indicator is not illuminated, replace park brake switch.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect park brake switch connector. See Figure . Connect a jumper wire between park brake switch harness connector terminals. Turn ignition on. If park brake switch indicator is illuminated, repair short to ground on Gray/White wire between instrument cluster connector C2 terminal No. 9 and brake warning indicator switch connector terminal No. 1 and/or Gray/Black wire between park brake switch indicator switch connector terminal No. 1 and park brake switch. If park brake switch indicator is not illuminated, replace park brake switch indicator.
