Panel Dimming Inoperative

NOTE: Ensure headlights, park lights and other instrument cluster functions operate properly before performing test.

Possible Causes:

Testing

  1. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select BODY, ELECTRO/MECH CLUSTER and check DTCs. If PANEL DIMMER OPEN is not displayed, go to next step. If PANEL DIMMER OPEN is displayed, go to PANEL DIMMER OPEN  .
  2. Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn on park lights. Check voltage between instrument cluster harness connector C2 terminal No. 6 (Orange wire) and ground. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open circuit on Orange wire.
  3. Remove suspect cluster illumination bulb(s). If bulb(s) are faulty, replace bulbs. If bulb(s) are okay, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
