PCM Status Failure Or Serial Link External Fault

  1. Using scan tool, read and record Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC). Erase SKIM DTCs. Turn ignition off for 2 minutes. Turn ignition on. Read SKIM DTCs. If same fault message is currently displayed, go to next step. If same fault message is not currently displayed, go to step  4 .
  2. Turn ignition off. Visually inspect related wiring and harness connectors for corrosion, pullout and damage. Repair problems as necessary. Check for related technical service bulletins. If no problems were found, go to next step. If any problem was found, repair as necessary.
    NOTE: Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM) Personal Identification Number (PIN) is required for next step.
  3. Erase SKIM DTCs. Turn ignition on for 90 seconds. Turn ignition off. Repeat 5 times. Read SKIM DTCs. If same fault message is currently displayed, replace Powertrain Control Module (PCM). See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If same fault message is not currently displayed, test is complete.
  4. Visually inspect related wiring and harness connectors for corrosion, pullout and damage. Repair problems as necessary. Check for related technical service bulletins. If no problems were found, test is complete. If any problem was found, repair as necessary.
