Body Control Modules: Description: Notes
NOTE:
Self-diagnostic tests are written specifically for Chrysler's Diagnostic Readout Box (DRBIII(R)) scan tool. A generic scan tool may not be capable of performing all necessary test functions.
The body control computer system consists of a combination of modules that communicate over the Programmable Communication Interface (PCI) bus system. Through the PCI bus, information related to the operation of vehicle components and circuits is communicated. Each module uses information as necessary. This reduces the complexity of vehicle wiring and size of wiring harness.
Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) are accessed through a 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC) using Chrysler's Diagnostic Readout Box (DRBIII(R)) scan tool or generic scan tool. See Fig 1 .
Modules connected to the DLC through the PCI bus circuit are as follows:
- Air Bag Control Module (ACM)
- Electro-Mechanical Instrument Cluster (EMIC)
- Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
- Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM)
