Checking Intake Air Temperature Sensor

NOTE: For connector identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For component location, see COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . For circuit identification and wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article. After each repair procedure has been completed, reconnect all components.
NOTE: After each repair procedure has been completed, reconnect all components. When performing this test, do not allow more than 5 minutes between removal of the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor and measuring the temperature.

Turn ignition on. With the DRBIII(R), read and record IAT sensor temperature value. Remove IAT sensor. Using a thermometer, read temperature inside IAT sensor opening. Compare both readings. Are the temperature readings within 10°F of one another? If yes, IAT sensor is operating properly. Test is complete. Reinstall IAT sensor. Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER-2  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, replace IAT sensor. Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER-2  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
