Engine Block - Cleaning

CLEANING

Thoroughly clean the oil pan and engine block gasket surfaces.

Use compressed air to clean out:

- The galley at the oil filter adaptor hole.
- The front and rear oil galley holes.
- The MDS oil galley holes in the valley.
- The feed holes for the crankshaft main bearings.

Drill and tapped holes should be free of debris upon assembly.

Once the block has been completely cleaned, apply Loctite PST pipe sealant with Teflon 592 to the threads of the front and rear oil galley plugs, and coolant drain plugs. Tighten the oil galley 1/4 inch x 18 NPT plugs to 20 Nm (177 in. lbs.). Tighten the coolant drain 1/4 inch x 18 NPT plugs to 34 Nm (300 in. lbs.). Tighten the 3/8 inch x 18 NPT plugs to 27 Nm (240 in. lbs.).
