Fan, Cooling: Removal: 3.0L

CAUTION:

Care must be used when trying to remove the upper and lower shroud covers. Damaging the holes in the cover may cause it to become loose and not perform properly.

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Refer to CABLES, BATTERY, REMOVAL .
  2. Remove the engine cover.

  3. Remove the charge air hose from the resonator by loosening the clamps (2) and position the hoses aside.
  4. Remove the bolts (1) to remove the resonator and bracket as an assembly.

  5. Remove the upper radiator hose (2) support clip (1) from the cooling fan shroud (3).
  6. Raise the vehicle.

    NOTE:

    The lower shroud cover needs to be removed in order to remove the cooling fan assembly from the mounting tabs.

  7. If equipped, remove the lower engine shield.
  8. Remove the lower shroud cover (4) by using a pick (2) to pull the cover retaining hole away from the clip (3) along the bottom of the cooling fan assembly (1).
  9. Lower vehicle.

  10. Disconnect electric fan connector (1).
    NOTE:

    The cooling fan assembly is held in place by clips that are part of the radiator. So care must be used so the clips are not damaged during fan removal.

  11. Remove shroud (3) assembly from vehicle by pressing the locking clips (2) inwards with a flat blade screwdriver.
  12. Pull the fan/shroud assembly upwards and away from the radiator with the upper cooling fan assembly shroud cover in place.
  13. Remove the cooling fan assembly from vehicle.

  14. Remove the upper fan shroud cover (1) by using a pick (3) to pull the cover retaining hole away from the clip (2).
