Removal And Installation: RHD: Removal

CAUTION:

Steering column module is centered to the vehicles steering system. Failure to keep the system and steering column module centered and locked/inhibited from rotating can result in steering column module damage.

NOTE:

Some vehicles may not be equipped with an internal locking shaft that allows the ignition key cylinder to be locked with the key. Alternative methods of locking the steering wheel for service will have to be used.

  1. Position the front wheels straight ahead.
  2. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable(s). Refer to BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECTION .
  3. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to WHEEL, STEERING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  4. Remove the Steering Column Control Module (SCCM). Refer to MODULE, STEERING COLUMN CONTROL (SCCM), REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  5. Remove the gap hider. Refer to GAP HIDER, STEERING COLUMN SHROUD, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  6. Disconnect the upper end of the steering intermediate shaft from the steering column shaft. Refer to SHAFT, INTERMEDIATE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  7. Remove the wiring harness routing clip (2) from the steering column.
  8. Remove the four steering column nuts (1).

  9. Lower the steering column slightly and disconnect the steering column lock module wire harness connector (1) if equipped.
  10. Carefully guide the steering column shaft out of the bulkhead and remove the steering column.
