General instructions
For vehicles equipped with mechanical key, before starting to tow, turn the ignition key to RUN and then back to the STOP position. DO NOT remove the key from the ignition switch. Removing the key from the ignition switch will engage the steering wheel lock, preventing the steering gear from turning. Also, make sure the transmission is in the neutral position (if equipped with an automatic transmission, verify the gear selector is in the N position). If equipped with a stop/start switch, place the ignition to the RUN position and then back to the STOP position, without opening the door. When towing, be aware that without the help of the brake booster and the electromechanical power steering, it will be necessary to apply greater force to the brake pedal and the steering wheel. Do not use flexible cables for towing and avoid jerking motions. During towing operations, make sure the towing device does not damage the components that it comes in contact with. When towing the vehicle you must comply with the specific traffic regulations and the towing device. When towing the vehicle, do not start the engine. Before screwing the threaded tow ring, thoroughly clean the threaded insert. Before starting to tow, make sure to first screw down the threaded tow ring securely into place. The front and rear tow hooks must only be used for vehicle retrieval on the roadway. Highway towing is permitted for short distances through the use of special devices that complies with the rules of the road (rigid bar), moving vehicle on the road in preparation for towing or transport by tow truck. The hooks MUST NOT be used for vehicle recovery operations outside of the road or in the presence of obstacles and/or for towing operations using cables or other non-rigid devices. Respecting the above conditions, towing must take place with two vehicles (towing and towed) aligned as much as possible on the same centerline.
