Sensor, Fuel Rail Pressure: Operation
The Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor (FRPS) sends fuel rail pressure information to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The PCM monitors the data received and will determine how much fuel is required to keep adequate pressure at the fuel rail for engine operation or during a stop/start event (if equipped). The PCM controls fuel pressure by providing an output to the Fuel Pump Control Module (FPCM).
The FRPS is a four wire sensor. The PCM provides the 5 volt supply, sensor ground and fuel pressure signal circuits to the FRPS. The FRPS provides the sensor signal voltage to the PCM on the fuel pressure signal circuit. This sensor signal voltage changes based on the pressure in the fuel rail.
