Description And Operation

DESCRIPTION

The following are some of the components that make up the power window system:

COMPONENT INDEX

1. Refer to POWER WINDOW MOTOR .
2. Refer to POWER WINDOW SWITCH .
3. Refer to BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) .

OPERATION

The power window system allows each of the door windows to be raised and lowered electrically by actuating a switch on each door panel. A master switch on the driver door allows the driver to raise or lower each door window. The power window system operates only when the ignition switch is in the RUN or Accessory position.

Front door window lift motors use permanent type magnets. The B(+) and ground applied at the motor terminal pins will cause the motor to rotate in one direction. Reversing current through the motor terminals will cause the motor to rotate in the opposite direction.

BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM)

Refer to COMPONENT INDEX .

Both the front door window motors incorporate an electronic unit that communicates with the BCM via LIN bus. The integrated electronic unit, in addition to providing a supply to the power window motor, also manages the anti-pinch function.

The switch in the driver side switch is connected to the BCM. When the switch is operated at the master switch for the passenger door, the BCM sends the signal over the LIN bus to passenger side window motor to operate the passenger side motor.

The BCM directly controls the rear window motor operations and modes.

The BCM power to the window switches also supply the LED lighting within the switches.

POWER WINDOW MOTOR

Refer to COMPONENT INDEX .

The BCM supplies fuse protected power to the window motors.

A permanent magnet reversible motor moves the window regulator through an integral gearbox mechanism. A positive and negative battery connection to the two motor terminals will cause the motor to rotate in one direction. Reversing the current through these same two connections will cause the motor to rotate in the opposite direction. Each individual motor is grounded through the master switch. In addition, each power window motor is equipped with an integral self-resetting circuit breaker to protect the motor from overloads. The power window motor and gearbox assembly cannot be adjusted or repaired. If damaged or ineffective, the entire unit must be replaced.

The electronic circuit inside the motors manages the anti-pinch safety function. It obtains information about the possible presence of an obstacle during window operation. The anti-pinch function is performed by a hall effect sensor that senses overloads in the window motor. The intervention threshold is set when the force of the obstacle encountered during window travel exceeds.875 kg (1.9 lbs).

POWER WINDOW SWITCH

Refer to COMPONENT INDEX .

The power window control switches receive power from the BCM.

The power windows are controlled by a window/lock switch on the trim panel of each front door. Switches in the driver door window/lock switch allows the driver to control the passenger windows. The power window switches control the battery and ground feeds to the power window motors. All passenger door power window switches receive their battery and ground feeds through the circuitry of the master window/lock switch on the drivers door panel. When the power window lockout switch is enabled, the battery feed for the rear door power window switches is interrupted.

Window switch output:

The power window switch, when activating a passenger window, sends a Local Interface Network (LIN) bus message to the BCM. The BCM actuates the passenger window motor.

If the Auto-Up/Down feature needs to be learned or relearned. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
