Removal And Installation: Removal
WARNING:
Before servicing the steering column the airbag system must be disarmed. Failure to do so may result in accidental deployment of the airbag and possible personal injury.
WARNING:
When an undeployed airbag module is to be removed from the vehicle, first disconnect the battery ground cable and isolate it. Allow the system capacitor to discharge for a minimum of two minutes before starting any removal.
NOTE:
In case of replacing steering column, connect the diagnostic tool to initialize the steering angle sensor.
NOTE:
Position the front wheels straight, enter the first lock steering to the right and remove the ignition key.
NOTE:
Keep the steering column adjustment lever locked during all phases of removal and installation.
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
- Remove the steering column opening cover. Refer to COVER, STEERING COLUMN OPENING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the Steering Column Control Module (SCCM). Refer to MODULE, STEERING COLUMN CONTROL (SCCM), REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
.
- Remove the intermediate shaft lower pinch bolt (1), and remove the intermediate shaft (2) from the steering gear.
- Disconnect the two Electric Power Steering (EPS) module electrical connectors.
- Remove the two front steering column bolts (2).
- Remove the two rear steering column nuts (1), and remove the steering column (3).
