Removal And Installation: Installation
In any instance where a bolt is through a rubber bushing, the bolt must be torqued with the vehicle at normal ride height.
Use care when applying load to the knuckle as to avoid damaging the ball joint seal boot.
When inserting the ball joint stud into the steering knuckle use caution to not over install the stud past the point necessary for installation of the steering knuckle pinch bolt. Inserting the ball joint stud too far can result in damage to the ball joint boot.
Verify the lower control arm ball joint stud is fully inserted into knuckle before pinch bolt is inserted into knuckle. Only ball joint stud rubber boot should be visible below the knuckle; stud should not be visible. Failure to fully and properly insert ball joint stud could lead to wheel separation and loss of mobility and could result in personal injury or death.
- Install the lower ball joint (3) fully into the steering knuckle (4).NOTE:
The steering knuckle pinch bolt should be inserted front to rear, nut on the steering arm side.
- Install a NEW
steering knuckle pinch bolt (1) and nut then tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to FRONT, TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Inspect the lower ball joint to verify that the steel ring (1) is still seated properly in the groove of the boot (2).
- Align the lower control arm (4) to the subframe.
- Install a NEW lower control arm front bolt (3), and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to FRONT, TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install a NEW lower control arm rear bolt (2), and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to FRONT, TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Using a NEW tie rod end nut connect the outer tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Refer to TIE ROD, STEERING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Install the lower load beam. Refer to LOAD BEAM, LOWER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Install the front fascia. Refer to FASCIA, FRONT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Perform a wheel alignment. Refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
