Removal And Installation: Installation
Use care when applying load to the knuckle as to avoid damaging the ball joint seal boot.
When inserting the ball joint stud into the steering knuckle use caution to not hyper-install the stud past the point necessary for installation of the steering knuckle pinch bolt. Inserting the ball joint stud too far can result in damage to the ball joint boot.
- Align the steering knuckle (3) to the front strut and install the two strut lower bolts (1), tighten the bolts to the proper torque specification. Refer to FRONT, TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .WARNING:
Verify the lower control arm ball joint stud is fully inserted into knuckle before pinch bolt is inserted into knuckle. Only ball joint stud rubber boot should be visible below the knuckle; stud should not be visible. Failure to fully and properly insert ball joint stud could lead to wheel separation and loss of mobility and could result in personal injury or death.
- Install the lower ball joint stud to the steering knuckle (4).NOTE:
The steering knuckle pinch bolt should be inserted front to rear, nut on the steering arm side.
- Install a NEW
steering knuckle pinch bolt (1) and tighten it to the proper torque specification. Refer to FRONT, TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Inspect the lower ball joint to verify that the steel ring (1) is still seated properly in the groove of the boot (2).
- Install the wheel speed sensor. Refer to SENSOR, WHEEL SPEED, FRONT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
.
- Position the splash shield (2) against the steering knuckle, install the three splash shield bolts (1) and tighten them to the proper torque specification. Refer to (TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS ).
- Install the hub and bearing. Refer to HUB AND BEARING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Using a NEW tie rod end nut connect the outer tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Refer to TIE ROD, STEERING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Perform a wheel alignment. Refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
