Tank, Fuel: Removal
- Drain the fuel tank. Refer to DRAINING FUEL TANK - DIESEL .
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Loosen the filler hose clamps (1) and remove the filler hose (2) from the fuel tank.
- Remove the muffler. Refer to MUFFLER, EXHAUST, REMOVAL
.
- If equipped, disconnect the quick-connect fitting (1) at the On-Board Refueling Vapor Recovery (ORVR) vapor line.
- If equipped, disconnect the quick-connect fitting (2) at the ORVR vacuum line.
- Remove the driveshaft assembly. Refer to SHAFT, DRIVE, REAR, REMOVAL
.
- Disconnect the fuel pump module wire harness connector (1) located on the rear crossmember.
- Disconnect the wire harness connector (2) from the retaining tab on the rear crossmember and position the connector aside.
- If equipped, remove the left side body skid plate retainers (1) and remove the skid plate.
- Disconnect the fuel supply line quick-connect fitting (2). Refer to QUICK-CONNECT FITTINGS

- Using a suitable transmission jack (1) and a fuel tank adapter (2), support the fuel tank.NOTE:
If equipped with skid plates, remove the skid plates, fuel tank support straps and fuel tank as an assembly.
- Remove the fuel tank support strap retaining bolts (1).
- Using the hydraulic jack, lower the fuel tank, support straps and if equipped, skid plates as an assembly and remove from the vehicle.
- If replacing the fuel tank, remove the heat shield push pin retainers (1) and remove the heat shield.
- If replacing the fuel tank, remove the main fuel pump module from the fuel tank. Refer to MODULE, FUEL PUMP, REMOVAL .
- If replacing the fuel tank, remove the auxiliary fuel pump module from the fuel tank. Refer to MODULE, FUEL PUMP, REMOVAL .
