Housing, Steering Column Bearing: Removal
NOTE:
Specific instructions must be followed when putting the steering column bearing together with the steering column bearing housing.
- Inhibit rotation of the steering column with adhesive tape/or strap.
- From the engine compartment, remove the lower intermediate shaft to upper intermediate shaft pinch bolt (3).
- Separate the lower intermediate shaft coupler (2) from the shaft (1).
- If equipped, remove the push in retainers (1) and remove the lower panel (2) below the steering column.
- Remove the pinch bolt (1) from the upper intermediate shaft coupler (2) at the column.
- Separate the shaft from the column.NOTE:
Do not use any type of grease on the shaft and bushing.
- Apply soapy water to the shaft and bushing to ease removal process in the following step.
- Tilt the coupler and shaft down just enough to carefully pull the shaft from the steering column shaft bearing and housing at the cowl.
- Cut and pull back the insulation from around the steering column bearing housing (1) as necessary for access then remove the three bolts (2).
- Using a common hook tool, remove the housing (1) from the cowl panel.
