Removal And Installation: Removal

  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the engine cover. Refer to COVER, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .

  4. Disconnect the wire harness connector (1) from the oxygen sensor upstream of the catalyst.

  5. Disengage the oxygen sensor wire harness (1), remove the fastener and the bracket.
  6. Remove the fasteners and the exhaust manifold upper heat shield (2).

  7. Remove the fasteners and the heat shield (1) below the exhaust manifold.

  8. Disconnect the knock sensor wire harness connector (1).
  9. Remove and DISCARD  the knock sensor fastener (2), then remove the knock sensor.
