Removal And Installation: 2.0L
REMOVAL
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
- Remove the engine cover. Refer to
COVER, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
or COVER, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
.
- Remove the fastener (1a) and the glow plug module (1b).
- Disconnect the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) (1c) wire harness connectors (1a, 1b).
- Remove the fastener (1a) and disconnect the ground lead terminal.
- Open the various retaining bands (2a) and free the wiring (2b) from the PCM bracket (2c).
- Remove the fasteners (3a, 3b), and the PCM (2c).
- If necessary, remove the fasteners and the PCM (2c) from PCM bracket.
INSTALLATION
- If removed, Install the PCM (1a) to the PCM bracket and securely tighten the fasteners.
- Install the PCM (1a) and securely tighten the fasteners (1b, 1c).
- Connect the wiring (2a) to the PCM bracket (1a) and apply the various retaining bands (2b).
- Install the ground lead terminal (3a) and securely tighten the fastener.
- Position the wiring and apply the retaining clip (1).
- Connect the PCM (2c) wire harness connectors (2a, 2b).
- Install the glow plug module (1b) and securely tighten the fastener (1a).
- Install the engine cover. Refer to COVER, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or COVER, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Connect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an IBS, connect the IBS connector.
- In the event of PCM replacement: connect the diagnosis scan tool to the vehicle, go to "PCM" and then the "Miscellaneous functions" menu and start the "Control unit replacement" procedure. With the key at OFF and the hazard warning light button activated, go to Body Control Module "(BCM)" and then the "Miscellaneous functions" menu and start the "Secret key transfer" procedure.
NOTE:
If this Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is being replaced with a new unit, a diagnostic scan tool MUST be used to determine if alignment of the PROXI configuration data into the new ECU is needed. If PROXI alignment is needed, follow the routine outlined in the diagnostic scan tool for PROXI Configuration Alignment under the Body Control Module (BCM) Miscellaneous Functions menu.
