Rear Driveline Module (RDM) Fluid Level Check

NOTE:

The rear differential oil change is not a scheduled maintenance service.

NOTE:

The Rear Driveline Module (RDM) oil must not be drained during normal level checks.

NOTE:

Be sure the vehicle is on a level surface, or is hoisted in a level manner, in order to obtain the correct fill level.

NOTE:

If this procedure is not carried out as described exactly, including waiting times, the oil level may vary by more than 3 mm (.118 in).

  1. With the vehicle in SNOW mode, drive at 30 km/h (19 MPH) for 5 minutes.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .

  3. Remove the Rear Driveline Module (RDM) oil fill plug (1).

  4. Insert a suitable hex wrench (1) in the filler hole to submerge the short arm of the wrench in the oil holding the long branch perfectly horizontal.
  5. Very carefully remove the hex wrench (1) from the hole.

  6. With a digital caliper, check that the position shown in the figure is comprised between 13 - 15 mm (.51 -.59 in).
  7. If necessary, add the specified fluid. Refer to CAPACITIES AND RECOMMENDED FLUIDS, SPECIFICATIONS .
  8. Clean the RDM fill plug and install a NEW  gasket. Install the fill plug and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
