Programming The TCM

This procedure is required when one or more of the following situations are true:

• A Transmission Control Module (TCM) has been replaced.
• Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1DC6-00 - TCM Not Programmed is set.
• An updated calibration or software release is available for either the TCM or Transmission Control Module (TCM).

This procedure assumes that the scan tool is properly configured to the dealership network with either a wired or wireless connection. For help on how to network the scan tool, use the "Help" tab at the top of the diagnostic application.

Programming Procedure: 

1. Record the flash part number in the original TCM.
2. Have the vehicle Personal Identification Number (PIN) available.
3. Replace the TCM.
4. Connect a battery charger to the vehicle.
5. Connect the diagnostic scan tool.
6. Position the ignition to the RUN.
7. Manually enter the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) in diagnostic scan tool to identify what vehicle you are working on.
8. When the diagnostic scan tool successfully identifies the vehicle, locate the correct Flash. Flash the TCM software. Follow the diagnostic scan tool prompts. Cycle the ignition as directed.
9. If required, perform the "Proxy Configuration Alignment  " located in the "Vehicle Preparations" menu in the Body Control Module (BCM). This routine will copy the PROXI into the TCM and write the TCM VIN. If PROXI Alignment is required, Manually enter the VIN into the TCM using the "Check TCM VIN" misc function under TCM.
10. Verify that the engine starts and runs.
11. Select the TCM view and then select the "Misc Functions  " menu.
12. In the TCM "Misc Functions  " menu, perform the "QUICK LEARN  " routine. Follow the prompts shown on the diagnostic scan tool.
13. Module programming is now complete.
