Removal And Installation: Installation

WARNING:

To avoid serious or fatal injury on vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, airbag, seat belt tensioner, impact sensor or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the SRS. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment.

  1. Insert the key into the ignition lock cylinder and turn the key to the RUN position.
  2. Insert the ignition lock cylinder into the ignition switch housing, then turn the key to the OFF position and remove the key from the ignition lock cylinder.
  3. Install the upper and lower shrouds onto the steering column. Refer to SHROUD, STEERING COLUMN, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  4. Connect the negative cable to the battery. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), connect the IBS connector.
  5. If keys are replaced, perform the BCM key programming routine. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
