Transfer Case Verification Test
TEST PROCEDURE:
NOTE:
If the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or Body Control Module (BCM) was replaced, refer to the Service Information for proper programming and alignment procedures.
- Reinstall any removed components.
- Reconnect any disconnected electrical connectors.
- Be certain the battery is fully charged.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Remove the scan tool from the Diagnostic Link Connector (DLC).
- Turn off all accessories.
- Turn the ignition off and close all doors. Wait 30 seconds.
- Test drive the vehicle. If equipped with a selector switch, drive the vehicle in each Transfer Case range and verify proper operation in each range.
- To select or deselect 2WD, AUTO, or 4HI mode, vehicle speed must be below 88 Km/h (55 mph) with all wheels at vehicle speed.
- Shifts will not take place if there is a difference in wheel speed between the front and rear wheels.
- To select or deselect 4LO (if equipped), vehicle speed must be below 5 Km/h (3 mph) with the ignition on and the transmission in neutral.
- To select or deselect Transfer Case Neutral (if equipped), vehicle speed must be below 5 Km/h (3 mph) with the ignition on, the brake pedal applied, and the transmission in neutral. Press the Neutral button (if equipped) on the Transfer Case Selector Switch until the Neutral Indicator is illuminated.
- If equipped with Rear Axle Locker, operate the locker in accordance with the service information.WARNING:
Apply the parking brake. The vehicle may roll with the Transfer Case in neutral.
- To verify that the Transfer Case is in Neutral, shift the automatic transmission into reverse and release the brake pedal for three seconds.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Are any DTC(s) or symptoms present?
Yes
- Perform the related diagnostic procedure for the DTC(s) or symptom.
No
- Test complete.
