Code 10: Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor
NOTE:
IAT sensor is located inside of Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor. If IAT sensor is defective, MAF sensor must be replaced.
- Check MAF sensor connector for poor connection. Clean or repair connector as necessary. If connector is okay, go to next step.
- Check if Code 08 is also present. If Code 08 is not present, go to next step. If Code 08 is present, locate and repair open Black/Red wire between ground and MAF sensor connector.
- Using an ohmmeter, check continuity of Black/Red wire between terminals No. 3 of MAF sensor connector and No. 15 of ECM C249 (26-pin) connector. Also, check continuity of Red/Black wire between terminals No. 1 of MAF sensor connector and No. 15 of ECM C249 (26-pin) connector. If continuity exists in both readings, go to next step. If continuity does not exist in one or both readings, locate and repair open in Black/Red wire and/or Red/Black wire between ECT sensor connector and ECM connector.
- Check resistance of IAT sensor. Measure resistance between terminals No. 1 (Blue/Green wire) and No. 3 (Black/Red wire) of MAF sensor. See INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE (IAT) SENSOR RESISTANCE
. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace MAF sensor.INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE (IAT) SENSOR RESISTANCE
Measure Between Terminals Resistance No. 1 (BLU/GRN) & No. 3 (BLK/RED) 140°F (60°C) 493-667 68°F (20°C) 2210-2690 -4°F (-20°C) 13,600-18,400 - Perform after-repair procedure. See AFTER-REPAIR PROCEDURE . If Code 10 is still present, go to next step. If Code 10 is not present, no problem is indicated. IAT sensor and related circuits are okay at this time.
- Check voltage at terminals of ECM C249 (26-pin) connector as specified. See TESTING IAT SENSOR CIRCUITS . If both voltage readings are as specified, replace ECM. If one or both voltage readings are not as specified, locate and repair short in appropriate wire between ECM connector and IAT sensor connector.
