Ignition Coil Resistance

  1. Disconnect ignition coil connector. Using ohmmeter, check primary resistance between positive (+) and negative (-) terminal of coil. If reading is not .45-.55 ohm at 68°F (20°C), replace ignition coil. If reading is .45-.55 ohm, go to next step.
  2. Check secondary resistance between coil towers for cylinders No. 2 and 3. See Fig 1. Check resistance between coil towers for cylinders No. 1 and No. 4. If any reading is not 13,000-15,000 ohms at 68°F (20°C), replace ignition coil. If both readings are 13,000-15,000 ohms, coil is okay.
