Abs Control Unit
ABS control unit contains 2 microprocessors and is located under brake master cylinder. Control unit includes Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) assembly. Unit is non-repairable. ABS control unit calculates vehicle speed and monitors each wheel speed sensor, brakelight switch and pump motor. ABS control unit controls each valve to adjust brake fluid pressure if required. ABS control unit keeps each wheel from locking up by controlling ABS pump motor and HCU. If ABS control unit detects a malfunction has occurred, control unit stops ABS function. Vehicle braking is operated as a standard brake system.
ABS control unit also has self-diagnostic capabilities. When a problem is detected, it illuminates an ABS warning light, located on instrument panel cluster, and stores a diagnostic trouble code or codes. See RETRIEVING CODES under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING.
