Engine/Powertrain Control Module Reset Procedure
The diagnostic trouble codes in ECM memory will be erased by removing the negative battery cable from the battery or using an OBD II scan tool. However, for fuel system rich/lean or misfiring DTC(s), the diagnostic trouble code will be erased if both of the following conditions are met:
- When driving conditions (engine speed, engine coolant temperature, etc.) are identical to those when the malfunction was first recorded.
- When the ECU does not re-detect the malfunction for 80 driving cycles.
NOTE:
A "driving cycle" is complete as soon as the vehicle goes into closed-loop operation.
After disconnecting battery or replacing ECM, drive vehicle to enable ECM to relearn driveability. Inform your customer that they may experience driveability different from what they are accustomed to until ECM completes relearn function.
