Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor Inspection
- Reconnect tank pressure sensor connector.
- Vent fuel tank by removing fuel filler cap.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position.
- Using voltmeter, measure voltage at all three (3) fuel tank pressure sensor terminals in the fuel tank sending unit connector.
Terminal 3(W) - 2.0~3.0V
(Signal return voltage/base reading)
- If signal voltage reads 5.0 volts, check the sensor ground wire.
Terminal 1 (BR) - 0.0V (sensor ground)
Terminal 2 (L) - 5.0V (reference voltage)
- Disconnect hose from fuel tank at evaporative emissions canister.
- Connect hand-held vacuum pump to hose.
- Connect voltmeter between fuel tank ground and the W wire in the fuel tank sending unit connector.
- With ignition switch in the ON position, verify that voltage goes down when vacuum is applied to when pressure is applied.
- Disconnect fuel tank pressure sensor connector, then remove the retainer nut, and remove fuel tank pressure sensor from the tank.
- Remove screw attaching fuel tank pressure sensor ground wire to the fuel tank sending unit mounting plate.
- Measure fuel tank pressure sensor resistance between specified terminal.
1(BR) - 3(W): 5.0~0 kΩO
1(BR) - 2(L): 2.5~0 kΩO
2(L) - 3(W): 5.0~0 kΩO
- If not within specification, replace the fuel tank pressure sensor.
